The football world was left devastated on July 3, 2025, following the tragic deaths of Liverpool forward Diogo Jota and his brother André Silva in a car accident in Zamora, Spain

we can confirm via reports that the two brothers were travelling in a Lamborghini on the A‑52 motorway near Cernadilla when a tyre failure caused the car to veer off, crash, and burst into flames, Firefighters and emergency services arrived swiftly, but tragically both men were killed instantly.

Diogo Jota, aged 28, was a burgeoning football star — a winger for Liverpool, with 65 goals in 182 appearances, and nearly 50 caps for Portugal; He had just wed his long-term partner, Rute Cardoso, on June 22, leaving behind a wife and three young children

André Silva, aged 26, was also a professional footballer, playing for Penafiel in Portugal’s second division.

Diogo’s journey began at Paços de Ferreira, then Atlético Madrid, a key spell at Wolves, before joining Liverpool in 2020. He quickly became a fan favourite, collecting multiple trophies: the Premier League, FA Cup, EFL Cup, and UEFA Nations League with Portugal. An emotional final Instagram post from his wedding day reminded fans of his joy, love, and humanity — all the more poignant given the tragedy that followed just two and a half weeks after.

Diogo Jota was more than just a footballer — he was a devoted family man with an infectious spirit, humble off the pitch and relentless on it. Even fans who once faced his competitive edge acknowledge the void his passing creates.

May both Diogo Jota and André Silva rest in peace. We wish both of these two men’s families our deepest condolences.
