It is to nobodies real surprise that Maldon & Tiptree are excelling in the Isthmian League (North Division) but has the club set themselves up to be bit in the rear side in the second half of the season? Well it certainly seems that club director Barrie Drewitt-Barlow has set themselves up for it..

In a recent post on X (formerly known as Twitter), Barrie Drewitt-Barlow (Club Director Of Social Work & Safeguarding) took to the platform to boast and brag about the club’s positioning in the Isthmian North League.

Donning a pair of sunglasses and a suit, Drewitt-Barlow posted four separate images on a post he made celebrating the club’s lead early in the season despite being only eight fixtures in and contesting first place two other clubs (Wroxham and Felixstowe & Walton)

The post as of writing has amassed over five thousand views and nineteen likes, though one specific comment did stand out from the two that responded on the post.

It is certainly a ‘bold’ move by the club to already be looking at not only their placement but also bragging about their place in the league given that the Isthmian North is composed of a total of forty-one fixtures with two clubs already on their tail.

Whilst Maldon & Tiptree may have a set of exciting games in hand that will surely be favourable for the club in terms of who comes out with the three points, it is certainly a questionable move to already be gloating. This post came shortly after Maldon’s win against 22nd place Brantham Athletic who are still yet to actually win a match this season.

lol oh please lol what you fail to mention in your “independent, unbiased journalism” lol and sour grapes, is that you came for a work trial at the club and never got the role because you would not have fitted in with the current social media team. (the same social media team that have been driving 10m visitors to our social media month in and month out! You sound VERY pissed off. I understand people wanting to drive traffic to there little blogs and you have to use the tools available to you to do that, but, you are biting off more than you can chew lol oh, and you are drowning your content with the amount of tags you are doing, shows how inexperienced you are! up to 5 important ones will get you a million more hits than the 87 you just added to this crap article of you missing the point. as long as you and your 13 followers enjoy it though uh lol

It’s always admirable when criticism comes from behind a fake name and email. 👏

For the record, The Football Journal has no ties to any club — it’s a student-led platform created to help young journalists build experience and portfolios. Our articles are written independently, not as PR pieces.

What’s strange is that our coverage of Maldon & Tiptree’s women’s team was well-received, yet a balanced article about the men’s side suddenly sparks this kind of reaction.

If the person behind the message truly wants to act like an adult (I can already guess who you are so.. somewhat amusing), they’re welcome to contact us properly — rather than hiding behind fake details. It’s not a great look for a club that claims to promote family values and community spirit with “your” media team!
